Applying ‘The Fun Theory’ to Productivity

Volkswagen:  "We believe that the easiest way to change people's behavior for the better is by making it fun to do. We call it The fun theory." Can we  find a way to add fun to our work?  That would increase productivity and boost morale.  Do you have any stories on how 'fun' can increase productivity?
